Skills
Programming
I use R in most of my projects for data analysis, statistical modeling and visualization. Recently, I’ve gotten into tensorflow and keras in R. Also, I am fluent in FORTRAN, since I had to modify code in atmospheric models. Plus, I also programmed my own rain cell tracking software in this language. I use python for application programming and, occasionally, for data analysis. But, I see the great potential of python in the field of machine learning.
Check my GitHub page for more information about code projects that I’m working on.
Tools
Whenever there is a way of using existing programs, I will do it. The most prominent example in this category is cdo (climate data operators). For automation, I rely on bash shell scripting. Another example is QGis, a geographical information system.
High performance computing (HPC)
I am familiar and routinized in running heavily parallelized applications on HPCs, such as atmospheric models. Single program multiple data applications are another staple of my HPC skill set.
Version control
Git is the tool of my choice for this task. I use it extensively for my software projects and even for writing journal articles in LaTex.
Besides, passionate about…
I love listening to music. Generally, I am a fan of blues and classic rock from the sixties and seventies, but also of contemporary genres that inherited from the music of this time.
I also play an instrument, the electric guitar. Besides playing, I also like the technical part around it. For instance, I do the setup and maintenance of the instrument myself, even the fretwork.
Electronics is another hobby that I regularly come back to. At the moment, mostly in the form of building effect pedals and small amplifiers. Examples can be found on my Instagram account.
